The city transformed to tourist destination from a fishing village, what you can easily see by the number of apartment houses created in the meantime. Despite of tourism in this city, it has different character than the major tourist centers such as Los Cristianos, it gained a certain calm.
In climatic conditions the city is situated almost perfectly on the west coast of Tenerife, which is the sunniest area of the island. Here you can expect more sunshine hours than on the south coast. This is due to the presence of trade wind, hitting the island from the north-east, while clouds on the west coast are retained by the Mount Teide. As a result, the west coast of Tenerife is almost always entirely clear.
The attraction of the village is a beautiful, black sandy beach – Las Arenas, with nice and beautiful promenade. Even just walking through this pretty town makes a lot of pleasure.
